The EP-3 spy plane crisis that ended peaceably last weekend
nevertheless caused "Country Club Republicans" to quake in their
boots for nearly two weeks.
And days later, we’re still experiencing the aftershocks.
Party regulars like Rush Limbaugh were falling all over
themselves to tell us how George W. Bush snookered the Red Chinese and why
phrases like "We’re sorry" don’t truly constitute an apology
when translated into Mandarin.
It’s true…President Bush did his best to project an
image of toughness once the troops had been released. He even let word slip
to the media that a U.S. aircraft carrier was headed for the South China
Sea, ostensibly to escort further surveillance flights tracing the
Sino-Pacific coastline from just inside the borders of international air
space.
How much of this bluff and bravado was for domestic
political consumption remains to be seen. One report I caught on the
Internet, last night, indicated that the Pentagon has already scrapped plans
for the carrier escort and is ordering the ship and its planes to leave the
area.
If journalists and their public can hardly keep up with our
yo-yo military policy, how can our friends in places like Taiwan make
adequate preparations for the bloody inevitable?
One friend of mine suggested it would have been enlightening
to see whether a majority of Americans might have awakened to the Chinese
threat had our servicemen remained in enemy hands for a few more weeks.
I cannot wish that fate upon any of my countrymen. But I
suspect that given the martial nature of the Chinese communist overlords…and
their desire for conquest…our trading partners on the mainland will have
numerous fresh opportunities to reveal their true natures. Indeed, the
Chinese threat is showing up even in our hemisphere and on our soil. Not
only did previous presidential administrations grant Chinese shipping firms
control of the Panama Canal, they also have authority over a Long Beach,
California base and another port just 60 miles off the east coast of Florida
in the Bahamas. Who knows what manner of men and materials may be passing
through or amassing within those doorways attached to the Chinese Trojan
horse?
There are individuals of conscience who aren’t waiting for
"the next time" to take a public stand against the Chinese and the
threats they pose to our way of life. Noted educator Dr. Paul Lindstrom of
Arlington Heights, Illinois has organized efforts to boycott the purchase of
Chinese-made goods and is encouraging people to destroy anything that reads
"made in China" already in our homes.
Dr. Lindstrom recognizes that the United States is already,
clearly at war with the Chinese communists. At the moment, the combat is
mostly economic in nature. And we are losing this battle, badly.
Sino-American trade now works in the Chinese favor by a margin of about 70
percent.
With all the bellicose actions and thinly-veiled threats
directed at the United States by Chinese government leaders, the battle
could quickly boil over into a military one. Won’t the industrialists and
politicians who sold out our country for a quick buck have plenty to think
about when the nuclear and guided missile technology we sold the Chinese,
literally, comes right back on their heads?
Ever since I heard that our servicemen and women from the
EP-3 spy plane were headed home, I’ve been wondering what we gave up to
cause the Chinese to sacrifice their prize prisoners of peace.
What I am about to tell you…data provided to me by another
Web Today writer…smacks of disinformation to me. We just report what we
hear. Then, you can make up your own mind. But I’m told that the most
highly decorated US military man alive today, Col. David Hackworth, has
informed Fox News that the communists released our personnel because Jesse
Jackson and Ross Perot were both planning imminent trips to China with the
express purpose of seeking our sailors’ release.
Hackworth claims the Chinese brass did not want either
American "icon" showing up on their soil, so they threw open the
prison door.
Personally, I think the communists demanded and received
much more than a couple of cancelled entry visas for has-been do-gooders
like the Reverend and the Reformer.
If you want to know what we really promised the Red Chinese
in exchange for our troops’ release, I suggest we all keep a close eye on
what we offer the Taiwanese to help them defend themselves against the
coming mainland onslaught. If all they receive is hollow words and a few
measly "pea shooters," then we’ll be certain that the fix is in
and Taiwan has already been considered a sacrificial lamb by the worshippers
of the almighty dollar in Washington.
We should know a lot more in the not-too-distant future.
