Truth Decay & Moral Rot

If you want a snapshot of just how far gone America is today, I introduce as evidence an article in the Tuesday edition of the New York Daily News.

The scene is almost too grisly to describe…but perhaps not to a society that kept Hannibal the Cannibal atop its favorite movie chart for three weeks straight, recently.

16-year-old Lisa Small was described as a "good girl." She was helping her mother raise her six-year-old sister. She was quiet.

She was also pregnant.

As often happens, her family was unaware of her condition and she chose to deliver her baby, at home, by herself.

New York law allows mothers to abandon newborn infants at firehouses and the like without the risk of prosecution.

Perhaps Lisa Small did not know she had an option. Who knows why she chose Plan B?

Instead of giving her baby a chance at life, she fed it to the family dog, a Rotweiler named Midnight kept penned and half-starved in the backyard.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene, there was nothing they could do for the baby. In fact, the child was so badly mauled that witnesses claimed the baby’s sex could not even be determined.

The upshot of this bad choice? So far, it appears the dog is in custody and is likely to be destroyed but the 16-year-old mother was only being interrogated with no charges having been filed.

It could be that forensic specialists are trying to determine whether the baby was alive at the time of its birth. If so, criminal charges could still be filed.

Now, let’s take another look at this picture…not with the telephoto lens but rather with our "wide angle."

Is it possible that this child and millions more like it, might be alive today if America had not treated the dignity of human life as something to be denied or ignored? When we decided as a society that 42 million unborn children were expendable and fit to sacrifice on the altar of human lust, the lines became blurred.

Suddenly, Dr. Kevorkian pops up on the scene advocating euthanasia. Pro-death leagues begin promoting suicide clinics for teenagers and we at least take the time to listen. And, mysteriously, kids start showing up at multiple schools with guns and scores to settle.

And we blame the guns.

For me, the bottom line is the warped worldview we inherited from Charles Darwin and have passed along to generations of innocent dupes.

How is it we can tell our children they are nothing more than animals and expect them not to behave as animals?

Maybe if we did a little research and found a little truth, we could plant seeds of hope and promise in the fertile minds of our youth. Let them know they were created in the image of God and maybe they’ll surprise us by acting more like His children.

Is it too late for America to adopt a common sense solution for mass insanity?

Only time will tell.
