Who is Normal?

Yesterday, I received two e-mails from a conservative Christian group dedicated to ensuring the approval of Attorney General nominee John Ashcroft.

One of the messages explained the extraordinary efforts being undertaken by the radical left, particularly homosexuals and their supporters, to derail this unabashedly wholesome born-again Christian from future public service.

The latest volley in their artillery barrage of cheap attacks blasts Ashcroft for opposing the Clinton administration nomination of James Hormel to become US ambassador to Luxembourg.

Eventually, Clinton was forced to circumvent normal Senate approval for Hormel and install him by means of a recess appointment.

One of Hormel’s detractors was then-Senator John Ashcroft. While the homosexual lobby attempted to paint the issue as one of black and white…the good gay against the bigoted Moral Majority, the problems with Hormel’s appointment ran far deeper than the media had revealed.

There were those in Congress who were aware of Hormel’s unusual recipients for philanthropy. The meat-packing millionaire had funded the "James Hormel Gay and Lesbian Reading Center" at the San Francisco Public Library. The works that found their way onto the shelves of that shameful place would cause many of us to shudder and others to blush.

One need not look far to locate books advocating pedophilia, incest and even coloring books for children openly depicting page after page of female private parts.

Yet, California Senator Diane Feinstein has already announced her opposition to the Ashcroft appointment saying his views were not representative of mainstream America.

Wow! It makes you wonder who is really out of touch.

Copies of the X-rated coloring book distributed to minors at the Hormel branch of the public library have been sent to every incoming freshman senator by the Coalition for Traditional Values, a Christian watchdog group attempting to bring some balance to the Ashcroft witch hunt.

The other e-mail we received from the Coalition urged conservatives to go on the attack, contacting our senators and using terminology the other side can understand. The fear-driven campaign to keep Ashcroft out of Janet Reno’s office was to be referred to as "religious profiling." Not that John Ashcroft was guilty of any crime. Simply that he might be more likely to offend the politically correct sensibilities of the left because of his Christian belief system.

Observers claim the Ashcroft nomination will ultimately be approved. That is a good thing. It’s true, John Ashcroft is just a man and has made mistakes, as have we all. But the scurrilous campaign against his character being led by moral no-accounts like Ted Kennedy is a shameful spectacle to behold.

What the militant, pro-homosexual lobby has been attempting to do is create a society where anything is legal, moral and acceptable if it feels good. They believe that in the absence of "norms," any conduct can and should be considered normal.

They are wrong.

Like termites, these teachings are eating away at the foundation of our land. Those responsible will not be satisfied until our house falls.

For us to expect John Ashcroft to singlehandedly stop the dry rot is expecting far too much. He can only enforce the laws of the land. The cure for what ails America must start spreading from the heart of God to the heart of man. Wholesome legislation will follow. Then, and only then, will John Ashcroft have something that he can enforce.
