Gays "Bash" Boy Scouts

The Boy Scout oath.

"On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight."

Ever since Britain’s Lord Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scouts, 90 years ago, young men around the world have taken that pledge of excellence, promising to adhere to a moral standard dedicated to exalting one’s creator, community and personal development.

We can thank the liberal left for their frontal attack on one of the few remaining bastions of decency remaining in America…the Boy Scouts of America.

Now, the New York City school board has joined districts in Chicago, San Francisco, Minneapolis and San Jose in severing all connections to the Boy Scouts.

Why?

Because the Scouts refuse to compromise one of their core commitments…to keep the children who grow up in its system "morally straight."

When the Scouts battled judicial challenges all the way to the Supreme Court, last June, and preserved their right to exclude homosexuals from membership or leadership positions in their organization, the homosexual detractors shifted their method of attack.

If they couldn’t chop down the tree at the base, they decided to trim the branches.

And they’ve been wielding their hacksaws with a vengeance, attacking Boy Scout sources of funding and legitimacy.

Now, parents who want their precious children to learn outdoor skills, first aid and other life-enriching curricula without exposing them to sodomy and AIDS have been evicted from Gotham’s public schools. No longer will troops meet in schools. No longer may the scouts recruit new members in schools.

The New York City Board of Education claimed it was merely enforcing its policy against sexual discrimination. The truth is, society has now become so fractured that we can no longer agree on a common standard of what goodness is, so how can we as a nation promote it? No wonder our younger generation is growing up lost. We led them into the wilderness.

It’s a dark day for scouting. Membership is likely to tumble without access to new recruits. Several major corporate sponsors have yanked their funding from the scouts including Levi Strauss, J.P. Morgan and the Knight Ridder newspaper chain.

What this latest skirmish in the culture war underscores is the need for parental choice in education. When voucher systems are in place every parent will decide whether his or her child should attend a public or private school.

Then, and only then will we be in a position where the "new morality," which is really the "old immorality," cannot literally be rammed down the throats of our young.
