Counting Our Blessings...

Sometime between the third quarter and the final play of the second NFL game, most of us will slouch into our favorite easy chair, loosen up the belt buckle…unless Aunt Mildred is in the room…and skate as close to the edge of hibernation as is humanly possible.

Before those 300-pound weights close our eyelids and the time we wake up Friday morning with an extra 20 pounds glued to our hips, we can expect a Thanksgiving filled with parades, family get-togethers, aromatic odors from the kitchen and the traditional fight over the turkey wishbone.

Hopefully, we will also remember to take at least 30 seconds of time in prayer to bless the meal and thank its Provider for the many blessings He has bestowed upon us.

In America, that’s not too hard to do. Even the poorest American has life much better than the AIDS orphan in Africa, the persecuted Christian family in Indonesia or the child maimed for life in the latest round of Middle East fighting.

But while we’re counting our blessings, we might also want to offer a quick prayer for victims of government atrocities in the Sudan, where an out-of-control Muslim regime thinks nothing of bombing churches, schools and hospitals filled with innocent civilians.

Speaking of government atrocities, let’s not forget asking Divine intervention to stop the ongoing attempt to steal an election. With each passing day, we see a fresh outrage as the liberal elite uses our courts to subvert the will of the American people.

Will the powerful forces behind this electoral theft succeed? We should know soon.

It’s clear that wishing it were gone will not end all injustice, pain or poverty in the world. But prayer is a powerful weapon for good. And nothing moves the hand of our Creator quite like a thankful human heart.

Here’s wishing you and your family a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.
