A
Time for War
The Bible’s Book of Ecclesiastes reminds us there is a
time for everything…"a time for peace and a time for war."
Like it or not, America is facing a time of war.
Our leaders are preparing us for a protracted struggle. The
opening shots of World War III have already been fired on our shores. The
targets of this cruel assault were by and large civilians. And while our
sons and daughters are half way around the world, doing their patriotic
duties and making us proud, those of us on the home front are equally likely
to suffer significant casualties.
During the days of ancient, heroic struggles, all great
cities kept watchmen on the wall to warn of approaching armies. Like the
Trojan horse strategy that brought down that impressive civilization of Asia
Minor, our enemies have already penetrated the great ocean barriers that
once protected the United States…and we, too, welcomed them in with open
arms.
In my role as one of the modern watchmen, I raise my voice
to warn America. To arms. To arms.
We must be vigilant, our stocks of food and medical supplies
updated. We must provide our families with whatever protection we can
against pending biological, chemical and nuclear attacks.
Most of all…first of all, we must repent and pray.
The Lord God of the Universe has not chosen me as His
personal confidante to tell me whether the attack and pending
counter-attacks were sent by Him or His Adversary. I have heard well-meaning
Christians espousing both points of view.
But I do know the only "high wall," a place of
shelter during this dangerous time for our nation, is within the loving arms
and nail-scarred hands of our Savior Jesus Christ. "Hide me in the
clefts of the rock until the indignation be overpast."
Jesus is the rock of our salvation, his side cleft by a
Roman spear to spill the blood that bought our eternal life. We’re
promised that no one who puts their trust in Him will be ashamed.
That’s good enough for me.
Now, more than ever, when men’s hearts will be failing
them for the things that are coming upon the earth…anthrax, VX gas and
thermonuclear weapons, there is no suitable place of protection for any of
us but under His glorious wings.
I am not ridiculing or denying the wisdom of making physical
preparations for the hard times ahead. That would be pure foolishness.
But when you’re packing your Brita water filters, MRE’s,
30 caliber ammunition, toilet paper, colloidal silver, anti-biotics and
batteries, don’t forget to leave room in the glove compartment for one
more thing.
The family Bible.
It just might save more than your life.
