Honeymoons
and Second Thoughts
Like many Americans, I suspect I’m beginning to feel like
the new bridegroom, the morning after the ceremony.
In my heart, I’m certain that we’ve done the right
thing. Old Glory still flies from my garage and my car antenna.
I want to believe for the best...but those nagging doubts just don’t want
to leave.
You’d be hard-pressed to find an individual who is more
conspiratorial-minded than yours truly. I have seen the treachery of
government agencies at work from Ruby Ridge and Waco to Oklahoma City and
beyond.
Then, along comes the biggest outrage in American history.
Even if the 19 Muslim terrorists who seized the four jetliners on September
11th had failed to leave their textbooks and fingerprints in
broad view, this murder mystery could have been solved within the first 30
seconds and without the help of the legendary Sherlock Holmes.
Suddenly, those of us who had harbored significant doubts
about this President’s pedigree and his old school ties to the New World
Order have found ourselves swept aboard a patriotic tidal wave fueled by
outrage and revenge…or at least a demand for justice.
My mouth is saying, "Nuke Bin Laden." But there’s
a little voice whispering, "Be careful. This could be a trap."
Of course, there’s always the risk that other terrorists
in waiting may raise the ante if we take out our national frustrations on
Afghanistan but we must be prepared for that kind of eventuality. That’s
part and parcel of fighting any war and our patriotic duty. We must have
courage. And we owe an obligation to the protection of our families
and our people.
No, here’s where I see the trap. The Justice Department is
requesting and may receive sweeping new powers for expanded drug-related
property seizure laws that have nothing to do with the anti-terrorist
crusade. And the American people will be willing to hand over our freedoms
with a smile.
Doctors who treated victims of the terrorist attacks say
they were hampered by the inability to identify victims and their health
limitations. The easiest way to solve that? Injecting pre-programmed
microchips under human skin, which prepares mankind to accept the Mark of
the Beast.
Legislation may be requested to track and control
international currency transactions of criminals and terrorists, which would
be easy as pie with implanted microchips.
You’ll notice that the "bad guys" in this latest
scenario are the "fundamentalist Muslims," those who take
literally the words of the Koran, a violent, bellicose book, no matter what
George W. and his "spinmeisters" say.
Who’s to say that the next offensive won’t come against
"fundamentalist Christians" because some wacko takes a deer rifle
and shoots an abortionist? Will we become the next targets of the F-16s?
And what about the notion of the sovereign nation state? By
taking on ourselves police powers for the world, don’t we run the risk of
one day allowing another nation to stage its own assault on American
citizens within America’s borders? Doesn’t this further the goal of the
one-worlders to blur national borders and impose global rule? Why else would
President Bush be working so hard to build the same type of international
consensus and coalition his father assembled during Operation Desert Storm?
All these questions seem to pale into insignificance or at
least take the back seat when compared to the magnitude of the human toll of
death and suffering exacted at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The
pictures are now seared into our collective national memory. It certainly
guarantees that any objections raised by nervous Constitutionalists would
fall on deaf ears.
Despite all these concerns, I still support the President’s
plan to deal with terrorism…and I pray that the Lord will grant George W.
Bush the wisdom to start making Godly choices. I can’t help but believe
that his selection of pro-abort Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge to head his
new Office of Homeland Security will move America even further outside the
Lord’s protective shadow.
Speaking of prayer, this nation needs to focus on repentance
and prayer to avoid mass disasters in the future. Even among Christians,
there is more than one way to consider what happened on September 11th.
Were the Reverends Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson correct
when they claimed the tragedies were sent as a judgement by God? Or was
America’s decision to turn away from God in recent days
responsible for allowing evil to rule this country by default and reap its
own cruel harvest? Both viewpoints flourish and time will tell.
In the meantime, my reluctant honeymoon with
Operation Infinite Justice is still on. Go America. Kick Osama's rear
end.
I’ve just noticed that this lady I'm
chained to for better or worse doesn’t look quite as appealing without her
make-up first thing in the morning.
