Let's Kick Some Serious Terrorist Butt!

Maybe I should wait a day or two to cool down before I speak my peace.

Nah!

My country came under attack Tuesday by the forces of evil. I was about to say "pure evil" but there is nothing pure about the motives or the outcomes of those responsible for the damnable actions of four hell-bound Muslim suicide bombers who took more than 260 fellow passengers to their fiery graves in four attacks on American targets.

There were reports that up to 50 thousand people worked in those 110-story twin towers in South Manhattan. As of this writing, we have no idea how many people died at the World Trade Center. We do know those buildings no longer stand.

Yes…it was pure. Pure selfishness. Pure deception.

Can any of us, especially those of us who call ourselves Christians, find any comfort in the notion that these four crazed individuals who took their last breaths on Earth expecting to be surrounded momentarily by a harem of lusty virgins, awoke instead to an eternity of fire and brimstone?

Ask the widow of the New York City policeman who never came home last night. Ask the kids of the broker who jumped 80 stories to his death rather than become a human charcoal briquette. Ask the husband of the TV newswoman who shared details of her hijacking by cell phone until her passenger jet became a guided missile targeting Trade Center Tower #2.

I can’t answer for them. I have a hard time answering for myself. God help us all.

I do believe we saw the literal fulfillment of half of Revelation Chapter 18 on Tuesday. If you read through the entire chapter, you could underline half the verses and they describe the events in New York to a tee.

I fear the greater fulfillment, where Babylon becomes uninhabitable and a plague spreads through the land. I pray it does not happen soon.

But we do know from study of the Old Testament that God has chastised his people for evil through the actions of people who are even more evil.

Will we respond to this provocation militarily as the body counts rise and we begin to understand the magnitude of these events? Yes. I hope we do. Will we get a better understanding of pain and loss that Israeli’s suffer with every act of Palestinian provocation and Muslim madness? I pray we will. Is the likelihood increased that the "dogs of war" will be let loose throughout the Middle East? This, too, may become necessary.

This is the time to thank our friends around the world for standing by us, particularly the Israelis who declared Wednesday a day of mourning for the United States and promised to send their elite rescue squads with sniffer dogs to locate and rescue survivors. We thank Britain and Italy for their expressions of sorrow.

And we hope the truth of this day will never fall prey to the spin doctors who have already begun to blame these attacks on America’s friendship with Israel rather than on Osama Bin Ladin and the Muslim extremists who were apparently responsible for plotting and carrying out these acts of infamy.

Pure evil.

Yes, I believe that’s a fitting description, after all.
