New, Clear Evidence
about Radiation Exposure...By Web Today Special Correspondent Ken Rasmussen
New studies are revealing past misunderstandings about nuclear radiation
exposure. Even though large dosages are still known to be harmful or even
fatal in massive dosages, it is now discovered that specific low level
exposure is extremely helpful to the body's normal operation.
Speaking to the audience at the recent Doctors for Disaster Preparedness in
Las Vegas, Nevada, Doctors Bernard Cohen, Ph.D., and Myron Pollycove, MD
Presented extensive evidence to confirm that radiation exposure in specific
low levels goes beyond being safe and non-harmful, but actually stimulates
the immune system to combat all diseases, quite similar to the way
nutritional food derived antioxidants are known to help the immune system.
Dr. Cohen spoke specifically on statistical evidence proving that radiation
exposure dangers are drastically overrated by using faulty base formulas.
Worst case scenarios often quoted succeed in illustrating a doomsday image
but have no scientific basis to prove any likelihood of probability. Dr.
Cohen claimed that by using the same flawed studies currently being quoted
to discredit nuclear energy, he could make ANY energy source look as bad or
worse. He went on to show better, truly scientific evidence that compared
nuclear to coal and others. Coal has a noticeably higher number of deaths
per gigawatt of power generation than nuclear just from air pollution alone,
not including mining accidents.
Dr. Pollygrove presented startling evidence about what low dosage does to
the body. Careful scientific evidence is now revealing a completely
different picture from what antinuclear advocates have been portraying since
radiation was first discovered.
The critical exposure level that must be observed is 250 mGy/y (pronounced
micro grays), 250 times natural background. Slightly more will plateau and
as it increases, it will start to harm the system. But exposure at 250 mGy/y
or less shows that it actually stimulates the immune system, harming
nothing, but helping the entire system to create its own antioxidants.
Antioxidants are necessary to combat free radicals. Free radicals are simply
described as incomplete combustion byproducts generated in our system most
frequently from our normal digestion of various foods. These free radicals
attack the DNA in our body's cells and cause mutations. Keeping an adequate
supply of antioxidants flowing in our system knocks these free radicals out
before they cause cell mutation damage which is ultimately what aging is,
the gradual breakdown and mutation of the body's cells. The human body was
intended to look young. Aging is merely the accumulation of damaged, mutated
cells in the body.
Closer study shows convincing evidence that humans react better if the
entire body is exposed rather than the currently used policy of shielding
during x-rays. Apparently full body exposure activates the entire immune
system where isolated exposure creates an imbalance in the immune system. At
the moment of exposure only a small portion of the immune system becomes
stimulated while the remainder of the body continues in its less healthy
condition. This makes the smaller exposed area have to work harder to bring
the entire body up to the healthier condition.
Citing specific evidence which had been censored, withheld, or lost from the
public eye, revealed studies from large populations exposed to low level
radiation. Accidents or acts of war in Iran, the Urals, nuclear shipyard
workers in the US, and surrounding areas of Hiroshima and Nagasaki revealed
that people exposed to these low dosages actually lived longer and healthier
than the normal population of that country which had never been exposed to
any radiation beyond the earth's normal ambient background level.
Dr. Pollygrove does not advocate "atomic vitamin pills" with this
study, but he does desire to dispel many of the erroneous fears surrounding
radiation exposure. One example being the current policy of isolated,
shielded exposure during mammograms, could actually be more beneficial if
the entire body was exposed at the time. Low dosage full body exposure can
actually offset problems caused by prior dangerous high dosage exposure. And
Dr. Cohen points out that the most dangerous aspect of nuclear waste is our
government's current policy of storing it all in one place.
