We are putting the cart before the horse. Please don't
misunderstand. What we are doing in Afghanistan cannot be criticized. But
what we are doing to protect the homeland is putting the cart before the
horse. Instead of throwing billions of dollars up against the wall to see if
anything sticks (airport security, biological and chemical defense), our
first reaction should be to secure our borders against illegal entry. The
second step should be the immediate deportation of all those who are here
illegally, particularly profiling those of Middle East ancestry. With
millions of illegal immigrants living within our borders, immigration laws
that are designed for a tranquil time that may never come again, can no
longer govern us. What is called for is the immediate boosting of the
Immigration and Naturalization Service to a Cabinet level position, and
stringent new laws by Congress to permit this paper tiger to unleash its'
claws to protect us.
Funding is the lifeblood of any government program. Nobody in Congress or
the administration has ventured a word about enlarging the staff of the INS
or about reviving the Coast Guard, which is stretched beyond its' limits.
Why? It certainly seems as important to turn off the spigot when the bathtub
is running over as it is to throw towels down to stop the damage.
The INS is hobbled today with stupid laws (ex. Senator Kennedy's amendment
to the present law, which permits those who belong to terrorist
organizations to obtain US visas), which must be immediately revised to
untie the hands of the INS. Why is no congressman agitating for this? Some
of our Constitutional guarantees may suffer slightly from this effort, but
they can be remedied later.
The important thing is to remain alive and functioning as a nation until we
are safe from internal disruption by illegal immigrants and by legal ones
who are bent on our destruction. You must be alive before you can fight
anything.
