So! Lori Berenson is
sentenced to 20 years in prison in Peru, and she is now declaring that the
verdict is "unjust". The Liberal Media is reporting every sob
syllable of her opinion because the cause is leftist, and the Media is
leftist. When Nathan Hale was hanged by the British for similar activity in
the Revolutionary War, there was no outcry of "unjust" in the
press. It was the penalty you paid for the chance you took (if you were
caught). However, today's Media is very pro-leftist, and this is a leftist
agenda.
The Tupac Amaru is the name of the guerilla terrorist group Berensen
befriended and supplied with a house, a staging area, for their plot to blow
up the Peruvian Congress and take over the government. These are the
"Shining Path" followers of Mao Tse Tung, who believed in the
violent overthrow of every government and replacement of same by Communism.
The plot failed after a ferocious shoot out. And Berensen was taken into
custody along with the wife of one of the guerilla leaders after police
determined that she had rented the house. She even posed as a journalist to
get inside the Congress building to 'scope out' the security depth for the
insurgents.
The Tupac Amaru is the same group that captured the United States embassy
building during a party and held many ambassadors hostage for 120 days
before being killed and captured by president Fujimori's police in a second
failed attempt to overthrow the government. At that time, one of the ransom
demands of the guerillas was for the release of Lori Berensen.
Lori is a MIT graduate student. Her mother and father are full professors of
political science. They know the score, the chances, and how to work the
Media. The Media is easily attracted to their cause, due to its own bias for
the left. Peruvians citizens state that the only reason Berensen was given a
second trial (at the first trial, she was also found guilty), was the
pressure exerted by the United States. Bill Clinton championed their cause
and intervened in Berensen's behalf. Some of the people of Peru expect a
pardon for her, again remarking on the probable interference of the US.
Perhaps Bush will differ in his interference and let the Peruvian people do
their own thing. The Media of the US will continue to treat the whole thing
like an "unjust" verdict. We should remember that the Media is
biased and that their opinion is just that-----an opinion. And it is not
supported by the facts.
Our ambassador to Peru, John Hamilton, has already asked the Peruvian
government to "re-consider" the verdict which came only days ago.
He also asked that Peru consider transferring Berensen to the US to serve
her sentence, since the conditions of the Peruvian jails are so austere. How
about that? Are the conditions too severe for the female prisoners of Peru?
Perhaps we will learn that Mr. Hamilton was appointed by Clinton. If so, the
State Department should call him home immediately! Bush and Colin Powell
should notify the Peruvians that there will be no more interference or
pressure to help Berensen. Let her stay and serve her sentence in Peru. We
don't need her here!
