The Senior Conservative

Po' White Trash

By Dick O'Connor

The black people used to use this expression for white people who really didn't measure up to their own standards. White people had a similar expression for black people who were lacking in moral standards. Thanks to the Clintons, we must borrow the expression from the blacks and use it against the unmitigated gall of our ex-president and his wife. No other expression fits them as well.

The chairman of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter has admitted a 'mistake in judgement' by inviting Clinton to speak before one of its shareholder meetings recently. Of course, this reflects mightily on the judgement of the corporate firm in all circumstances and has resulted in some shareholders withdrawing their hard money from the firm. Are the pigeons finally coming home to roost? This seems like a fitting punishment for a firm that would use such flawed thinking. The pardons for sale, the removal of furniture as far back as a year ago, the removal of gifts that were meant for the White House, the grandiose office space for which the ex-president wanted taxpayers to pay------all of this defines 'Po White Trash' to a point seldom seen in any society.

Right is right, and wrong is wrong. The definition of the word "is" can be found on the toilet stalls of any public restroom. Most of us, black and white, can only imagine the vast amount of wealth and power amassed by the Clintons. Yet, it is still preferable to be known as 'Poor White' instead of 'Po White Trash'.

We all, black, white and indifferent have a deep stain on our political souls as a result of the amoral leadership of these two. But Spring is just around the corner, and maybe a spring shower will wash away at least some of the filth left behind by eight years of leadership by ''Po White Trash'.
