The Senior Conservative
The Amazing 4-Day Self-Absolving Rainbow Reverend
By Dick O'Connor
Wow!! What a neat way to get out of a mess! Just stay 'grounded' for four days and then proclaim your own forgiveness!! If Jesse Jackson can do it, why can't I? He stated, "The ground is no place for a champion. The ground is no place that I will wallow on."
These modest words indicate the fine, well-balanced, unassuming mind of the activist leader. This humble man, clothed in sackcloth and ashes, has touched our hearts with his humility and sorrow. The "contract" that he was 'forced' to enter into was a legal agreement that he was obliged to honor, even though he had to use money from his organization, disguising it as travel expenses. The "contract" was really a form of penance, and nobody knows the suffering he must have endured while negotiating it with some one else's money. You can see the suffering in the defiant glare in his eyes. Also there is a questioning gaze that says "Will they really believe this?" When the world calls you a 'champion', that's one thing. When you call yourself a 'champion', you will be asked to prove it. Champion of what? Of rabble rousing in the black community? Of hiring the rent-a-mob groups to demonstrate for his agitation? Of representing the black experience in America?
Judging from black columnists like Cynthia Tucker, Jackson has destroyed their world, betrayed their youth, and held them up to ridicule. Those black people who are not deriving their income from activism are shocked by Jackson's actions. Calls for an audit of the Rainbow/PUSH coalition have been heard. C'mon, Champ! Tell the people how you spend their money! Are there any state, city, or federal programs you can tap into? Are there any grants (taxpayer dollars) that you don't have to account for?
C'mon, Champ! We all know this humble man of God was really not responsible for this fiasco. In his humility, he invited his paramour to visit the White House with him while he counseled another modest person on his troubles with an intern at the Oval Office. He (Jackson) could certainly give Clinton first-hand advice on how to explain this away so that nobody would know. One hand washes the other. It seems strange that black activists are allowed to preach the gospel of white denial of their rights, while white separatists are gunned down at Ruby Ridge. But maybe we would understand it better if we realized the depths of humility that were suffered by such men as Jackson. There are so many good black people in this country who love it and have contributed greatly to our nation's progress. How are so many others mislead by those false prophets who preach divisiveness, masquerading under the name of God? The Bible tells all of us that there is a special place in Hell for those who lead, but lead backwards. After all, this is one nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. Is the IRS interested in where this humble servant of God obtained the money for his paramour? A 'contract' calling for a $350,000 home in Los Angeles and $40.000 moving expense for her to move in? And $10,000 per month living expenses for her and his innocent but still illegitimate daughter? It is time for this modest man of the cloth to tell the congregation where the money came from.
