The Senior Conservative
"Reverend-----Are you Kidding?"
By Dick O'Connor
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton call themselves "Reverend', men of the cloth, men of substance, men who want to lead their supporters because they have been ordained, proscribed by God, to keep the faithful on the straight and narrow. Yeah, sure!! They are raising many false issues about John Ashcroft in order to try to force the Bush administration to give in to their Socialist agenda, and not allow it to assert its own conservative views. Anyone but a conservative!! In the process, however, they must be examined for their own relationship with God, that gives them the right to be addressed as 'Reverend'. Do you remember the'Chicasgo 7'? Abby Hoffman?? There was a young black revolutionary in that group with a modified Afro haircut named Jesse Jackson. The Democratic party reached some sort of accord with Jackson which included a position of influence in the Democratic machine. Where and for how long he went to Divinity school is not very public information. He founded Operation PUSH and started using the title "Reverend at that time. Al Sharpton grew up in the tough section of Brooklyn, and is rumored to have spent some time as a petty thief and sometime pimp. Where and for how long he went to Divinity school is not emphasized, as it also is not with Jackson. Sharpton became a leader in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area, and leads his flock today in the paths of righteousness, or so he says. He promises to lead a march on January 15th to the US Supreme Court Building to protest the 'illegal' election" of George W. Bush as our 43rd President. And to protest the appointment of John Ashcroft as Attorney General. Both of these 'Reverends' claim that Ashcroft is soft on civil rights, due to his views on the nomination of Ronnie White, a black judge of the Missouri Supreme Court who was nominated by Clinton to the federal bench (a lifetime appointment). What about Ronnie White? Why did Ashcroft oppose him? Jackson and Sharpton say it was because of race. Yet Ashcroft supported 90% of the black candidates for judicial office while he was governor and senator. Could it have any thing to do with Judge White's record? Now we are getting into it! His record as a Missouri Supreme Court judge includes a minority opinion of the Court which he insisted on writing even though he was outvoted 6 to 1 by the Court. He wrote that the accused should be granted a new trial, with release back into society a possibility. The accused had shot and killed three state police personnel plus a fourth victim, the wife of one of the policemen. He had confessed to the crime. There were witnesses who saw the incident and identified the accused. In spite of all of this, White wanted a new trial. Ashcroft received hundreds of letters from law enforcement officials, pleading that Judge White not be confirmed to the federal bench. After careful thought and investigation, Ashcroft led the fight that prevented White from being confirmed. This infuriated the "Reverends' and we are now watching their attempted revenge Let Sharpton and Jackson justify the minority view and the record of Judge White before they go after Ashcroft. They cannot. The Bible observes that there is a special place in hell for those who pretend to lead by the Word of God for their own enrichment. Let it be so. Since this article concerns race, let us admit freely that the white race has had its problems with scoundrels pretending to be men of God. Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggert come to mind immediately. It should be noted that they were just looking for money and power. Jackson and Sharpton are political activists, trying to stir up hatred between the races, and doing everything else they can think of to destroy the incoming Bush administration. Let those without sin cast the first stone. Let Jackson and Sharpton clean up Ronnie White's record before they attack a Bible toting, hymn singing, born-again Christian conservative like Ashcroft. The electronic and print media will continue to genuflect and call them "Reverend'. To us, they are simply Jackson and Sharpton.
