Gore Inspires Lyrical Prose
By Dick O'Connor
It is devastating that written words cannot convey sorrow and disgust to affect the emotions of the reader in the same manner as music and art are able to do. Music in a minor key, or a scene an artist paints with a dark somber background will arouse negative emotions in the viewer or listener, but the only thing to be done with print material is to enclose the entire effort in a black border, which still does not really arouse emotion. Yet, today, there is a need to embellish the printed word to show our shame and disgust with our nation's peril. Half of our country voted to support the views of a very selfish man, Mr. Al Gore, and some of us are still supporting him. The rest of the civilized world is snickering behind our back, and who can blame them? For centuries, with the exception of the slavery question, we have held ourselves up as an example of democracy; no mob rule, no coups, no rioting in the streets. Truthfully, we considered ourselves just a little better than all those other countries. No more!! One man with his demented lust for power has brought us to this point. Mr. Gore's unbelievable refusal to accept reality and his insistence upon endless litigation is now making us stutter as a nation, trip over our own feet, and lurch drunkenly from one court to another. No, we cannot illustrate this grief with gimmicks for the written word. We cannot portray the tears of the soul as a master artist would. But we remember times of pride. Times of tears of joy on seeing The Lady of New York Harbor. Or upon hearing a Souza march. Mr. Gore has helped rob us of our patriotism. We must accept that this nation is now, at least half of it, mired in the quicksand of selfishness. We should fight it all the way and never give up, but we must fight with a more jaundiced eye. You will find some of us starry-eyed patriots have a soul of steel and will make pretty good enemies. You and your team of lawyers have aroused us. Our nation lies bleeding and we won't forget it. There is no single or multiple key or keys on this keyboard that will express our shame, rage, disgust and terrible sorrow for our present state of affairs.
Thank you, Mr. Gore!
