Colloidal Silver Update

1/4/2002   (#99)

Since my "Colloidal Silver and Chicken Soup" column last year, I have learned a few more things about the subject.  Shortly after my column was published, I got a call from Larry Bates himself.  Since he sells colloidal silver generators on his radio program, it was a subject near and dear to him.  Larry uses colloidal silver, his own home generated variety, almost on a daily basis.  He reports no colds or flu and better dental check ups since he started.  This should also testify to my readers how NON-toxic the stuff is.  The word "silver" scares a lot of people and brings up the question of "heavy metal toxicity build up."  Nothing "colloidal" is heavy.  Colloidal means suspended in water.  If it floats in water, it will not build up anywhere.  The water will flush it on with everything else.

There are many brands of colloidal mineral supplements out there.  Personally I favor American Longevity's line, but that is another long story for another column.  If you read the fine print on any brand of multi mineral colloidal supplement, you will most likely see a couple of names you'll never see on anything else:  lead and arsenic.  Now before you throw your $25 bottle of minerals in the trash, you need to know that in colloidal form, in trace amounts, these are NOT toxic.  In fact, I dialogued with a fellow who's mother had been exposed to real heavy metal contamination.  He started her on colloidal minerals.  He had spectral analysis done on her hair samples periodically.  The toxic levels of heavy metals in her system gradually declined.  The colloidals were gradually dissolving away the real hazardous metals.

Each mineral has its own use and purpose in our digestive system.  Silver, in colloidal state has the unique property of killing off single celled organisms.  But it does absolutely nothing to dual cell organisms. Now here is the miracle God himself must have authored, virtually all bad bacteria and viruses are single celled.  But the good bacteria we all need to digest food and other bodily functions are dual celled.  It has been argued, and I accept the claim, that if your immune system is in perfect condition, you don't need an antiseptic of any kind in your system, because your own immune system will tackle ALL invading organisms and discard them appropriately.  This is well and true, but I have to respond with the question:  who do you know with an immune system in perfect condition?  Any junk food, any deep fried meat or vegetable and numerous other contaminates will weaken your immune system.  When any food is not digested and processed efficiently, you get an ugly item know as "free radicals" in your system.  Free radicals destroy healthy cells on a molecular basis.  That is why we need antioxidants in our diet.  But does anyone take exactly enough antioxidants to capture every free radical in your system?  Probably not. So since we live in an imperfect world, from time to time, we need medicine to combat attacking bacteria and viruses. And my personal choice is colloidal silver.

The next thing to determine is whether there is any difference in colloidal silver?  There most certainly is.  The home made stuff I was using when I wrote: "Colloidal Silver and Chicken Soup" only cost $2.00 per gallon to make.  It really was colloidal silver.  But why didn't it work very well.  I made it with DC current, at 12 volts.  That was the problem.  The home made system Larry Bates sells on his radio show runs at 24 volts.  His own results show it to be superior to mine.  But I have also learned of another process.  This one uses high voltage, alternating current, at a very high frequency.  No one who does this process will tell me what voltage or what frequency. It seems to be a guarded trade secret.  But the net result is colloidal silver with a particle size less that 10 angstroms versus home made which will have a size of 30 or more angstroms.  Some claim a PPM (parts per million) is a way to verify quality.  I don't see proof of this claim.  The PPM rating might affect the color.  Some is yellow, some is clear.  But color does not seem to be relevant to quality.   The voltage used appears to be the most critical factor in making colloidal silver that lives up to its claims.  The high frequency AC claim apparently affects particle size.  That claim stating that the smaller the particle, the more capable it is to flow through cell walls and do its job.

I found a web site that has extensive information about this topic and even mentions a lab which will analyze your own home made silver for you.  http://asktom-naturally.com/colsilver/

One other question has arisen lately, does colloidal silver kill anthrax?  I searched far and wide for this answer.  Anyone who sells it claims it will, but nobody had  laboratory proof to show me until I found a reference to a book published during World War One.  Colloidal silver was listed as an effective treatment for anthrax.  The book did NOT say what method was used to make it.  I can only assume from what cheap versus expensive colloidal silver does with other germs and viruses to feel that high voltage, high frequency AC produced is what I would want to use if I was ever exposed to such vicious stuff as anthrax.

I hope this answers the question of should I pay $60 for only 16 ounces or should I make it myself for $2.00 a gallon?  If you are taking antioxidant supplements and eating a healthy diet, you probably won't need to use much if any.  A 16 oz bottle will last you a year or 2. But I keep some in a small spray bottle with my work tools.  When encountering typical cuts and scrapes on construction projects, it's nice to have an antiseptic that has no sting to it at all.  That is why surgeons who deal with burn victims are familiar with colloidal silver due to its "no sting" characteristic. It also promotes tissue healing. And with the "money is no object" philosophy of most hospitals, you can be sure THEY use the expensive stuff.

One place that takes orders over the phone is DPC, in Valley Village California.  818-763-1000. Please use ID #4477 to order.  A 16 oz. Bottle will run $65.99 and includes shipping anywhere in the continental USA.  They might invite you to join their mlm program.  Pass on that one.  But I do vouch for the colloidal silver they sell called "Shield."  And if you find yourself exposed to bad germs on a frequent basis and need to make it in larger quantities yourself, contact Larry Bates at his web site. http://www.inforadionet.com/
