What Price for Truth?

Commercial radio and television spoiled us all. Free entertainment all for the price of the receiver, electricity and the patience to endure advertising. A minor detail we all overlooked, (especially self included) was the issue of just who controlled what was presented on these "free airwaves." Program producers pretty much answered to advertisers, and we rationalized that our elected government, through the Federal Communications Commission would always make sure nothing would ever get out of hand. And besides, our "free press" news media gets "better ratings" every time they uncover a scandal, so nobody controls what I see and hear. And if I don't agree, I can always turn it off. And so my argument went, thinking the only "controlled media" was inside the USSR.

And then I grew up.

Trouble shooting 101. Trace the connections. Trouble shooting 102. Follow the money.

The FCC hands out regional monopolies called broadcast licenses. Whoever owns these, controls what gets aired and how much advertisers have to pay for ad time.

Complex laws supposedly made distribution of airwaves fair, but the facts show that 3 multinational corporations: Disney, General Electric, and Westinghouse own the biggest plurality of major population center airwaves. And another multinational, AOL/TimeWarner controls the biggest chunk of cable distribution which includes porno. This fact alone makes porno more highly capitalized than conventional Hollywood movies.

Learning what IRS regulation 501c3 did to the church's voice on political matters, I confronted the manager of a Christian TV network once. I asked him why their programming never went beyond the basic plan of salvation and never discussed what scripture expects believers to be doing in an evil culture? I accused him of letting his 501c3 status control their moral reasoning. They apparently valued the tax deductible donations more than distribution of the truth. They never identified lying politicians from the few honest ones. Alan Keys was mentioned, but never directly endorsed. Blatant lies by the major candidates were never exposed.

He set me straight with his response. The FCC wields more clout to all broadcasters than the IRS. If ANY station does something that the federal agency, or government does not approve of, they can have their transmitter disabled. He went on to inform me a system is being installed into every licensed radio and television station in the country that will have an instant override control implemented. Who will have the magic button? It will be controlled from Washington DC. He was not specific which agency it would be, just that FCC is requiring it. I do not have an activation date to report as of the time I write this column.

For some unknown reason, the FCC puts a microscope on all religious broadcasters, but lets the big networks get away with things like Alec Baldwin telling a late night talk show host that after the impeachment hearings we should all go "burn down Henry Hide's home and kill his wife and children." But a religious broadcaster can't even impugn the integrity of a proven adulterer.

So now we realize that the only way to hear the truth is directly from the pulpit of your church and even that gets clouded with the 501c3 tax issue.

Where do we turn? The Internet is thus far, uncontrolled, but it is most definitely monitored. Even so, there is more truth here than any other place I can think of for an electronic mass distribution method. But it has its costs too. Be honest, what did you pay for your computer? I paid a lot more than I EVER paid for a TV set. And my TV didn't require a phone line and ISP monthly fee. And the annoyance of booting up, logging on and hoping my connection has enough bandwidth to get good audio makes even good programming require a major concerted effort compared to tapping the "on" button on the TV remote.

We pride ourselves here at 888WebToday for disseminating truth by text and an occasional still photo. But from time to time you really need television to see the complex issue as it developed in front of the cameras: Clinton raising his eyebrows every time he told another lie, or numerous memorable second by second sequences that unfolded in front of the news cameras that were there as witnesses.

The Waco F.L.I.R. Video recently reviewed here is a prime example http://www.888webtoday.com/rasmussen5.html ). Words and text, even still frame captures cannot recreate what happens in your gut when you witness an event so horrible as that, knowing full well that another human being was dying with every flash you saw.

I visited a Nazi death camp in Kaunas, Lithuania, a few years go. The execution method used at that location was to march the prisoners: Jews, Christians, and others into a large trench with no exit. From a raised vantage point overlooking the trench, the Nazi soldiers sprayed the line of people with machine gun fire, until all were dead. In the Waco F.L.I.R. Tape, you see US government agents doing this very same thing to US citizens, except in this case they were trying to escape a burning building only to be shot at the fire exit. This took place under direct orders from Washington DC. To this date, not one individual has been convicted of this crime. The strongest evidence points to Bill and Hillary Clinton being on a power trip, carried out by the lesbian attorney general, Janet Reno. But all physical evidence that could have convicted any of them disappeared. And the individual in the middle of the mess was Vince Foster, found dead about 90 days after the mass execution.

I personally feel that if this video was shown to America's complacent population, we could see a major backlash against the controlled media, and "single party with 2 names" electoral system. But what TV station would play it? None of the Christian networks dare, they would be off the air before the tape ended. There are several attempts being made to stream video over the Internet. Many sites do it already on a small scale, but video bandwidth is relatively expensive. I don't know anyone even trying the new HDTV format on the Internet. HDTV has 19 megabytes of data per second that must be processed. That's far beyond my dial up connection and even well beyond a cable, ISDN or DSL connection.

Technology has progressed to allow several broadcast quality (NTSC) signals to share one C Band satellite channel. So, theoretically a truly conservative TV satellite channel could be established. Thus far, FCC hasn't even considered censoring anything that goes through geostationary satellites. But getting the signal converted from this exotic digital C band signal into the average viewer's TV is another challenge altogether. The receiving equipment alone runs about $4,000 or more.

So until enough major investors work together to get perhaps a "pay-per-view" channel going on existing cable networks, the truth is relegated to being a video we still have to buy for about $20 or if you're lucky, rent from one of few stores that include the video among their selection.

I do contend that there are many truthful documentaries that could have changed history if people didn't have to pay $20 each for them. Clinton Chronicles, Vince Foster or Ken Hamm and Kent Hovind evolution exposé's are but a few. I would love to see a cable television version of what already exists on the Internet in the form of audio only, http://www.truthradio.com

But until the finances show up to make such a channel, we'll have to be content with Christian TV only showing us the warm fuzzy portion of the Gospel. If you know any sizable Christian investors interested in working to accomplish this goal, have them contact me at my e-mail address below. Religious TV has been tainted with frauds from its inception for one primary reason, TV has always been expensive to produce. And the FCC limited the number of channels, which gave a financial monopoly to anyone who owned a frequency on which to broadcast. So now as hardware costs have finally gotten cheap, TV is mandatorially converting to the HDTV format which by law must be implemented by the year 2008. Only because it's so new, HDTV hardware is astronomical in cost. But it would sure be nice to see truthful content emerging from the technically highest quality broadcast format ever invented. If we don't, you can be sure Satan will fill it with his garbage.
