Things Change

A few years ago I remember a woman was interviewed just after her husband was squeezed to death by a Python snake that they both slept with in the same bed. Her response was "we really trusted that snake."

So, speaking of bankers and politicians, X.com just canceled overdraft protection and now requires a minimum $100 balance in checking accounts to keep from incurring a $12 monthly service charge and losing ATM fee reimbursement. No problem if you think it's no big deal to loan your banker a C-note, but it is a problem for many.

On a more pleasant note, another dot com start up called Payment Alternatives is trying to compete with PayPal. This new one pays you $10 to open an account and $10 each for everyone you directly refer to do the same. To get your $10 credit, go to…

I do not have any solid information to prove how stable they are at this point, but earning money from them won't cost you any cash.

The independent party debates last week brought forth a couple of challenges worth repeating.

A question was offered to both Al Gore and George W. Bush asking if they would be any better off today if the full letter of the law was applied to each of them for their drug indiscretions in their youthful years? That would have brought a 20-year prison sentence for drug possession.

If the law were applied with the same force that Clinton uses against his enemies, both could still be in prison, not running for President. And Jesse Ventura reminded the audience that he was only running 10% in the polls 40 days before the election that he went on to win. Some things to consider when someone uses the "can't win" argument to ridicule a third-party candidate.

I deplore drug abuse as much as anyone. But I would like to see the drug laws, and all laws for that matter, enforced evenly throughout society, not just against one's political enemies as the Clinton administration has done.
