Who do you Fear More?

I'm not afraid of flying, but I have no desire to take a flight.

News reports of the zero tolerance present at airports and on airlines have convinced me that I could very innocently find myself subjected to over jealous airport security gone insane.

A few days ago a woman and her husband tried to change their flight to arrive home sooner, but their luggage had already been checked through. The flight was available but the agent told them, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to fly with your luggage."

The woman made the innocent remark, "Of course, there could be a bomb," as she acknowledged her understanding of why she could not take the earlier flight.

But that was all it took. Police were immediately summoned, and they acted beyond reason. The woman not only didn't get the earlier flight, her life was turned upside down. Ultimately she was given a citation for "making a threat," for which she paid fines and court costs to avoid the cost of returning to defend herself later.

That's only one of many incidents of a similar nature that take place in airports and on board planes every day. Airline officials need to be cautious, and I want them to be, but they can still use some common sense and logic as they deal with people who are just being human.

I have no desire to fly, and I am willing to bet there are many others like me - more concerned about the way they may be treated than the threat of a terrorist.
