Boy Scout Picket Falls Flat
WASHINGTON, DC, August 22, 2000 (WebToday)-- Who wants to picket against America, motherhood or apple pie? Not many.
O.K. then, how many want to demonstrate against the Boy Scouts? Not many either.
In spite of a public relations campaign to drum up support for demonstrations against the Boy Scouts, only a few protesters showed up for the events aimed at getting the Scouts to embrace homosexuality.
The group conducting the protest called themselves "Scouting for All." They peacefully picketed in front of several Boy Scout headquarters around the nation demanding the installation of homosexual scout leaders and members.
But the protests fell mainly on deaf ears since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that the Boy Scouts have the right to exclude homosexuals from becoming Boy Scouts.
Most people realize that it is only common sense that parents don't want their sons sleeping over night in Boy Scout tents next to homosexuals. But then again, who ever said the issue was about common sense?
